An autoresponder is simply a program that automatically responds to an incoming email. It can be programmed to respond with a single email or with a series of emails. Usually it will respond immediately to the first email and then followup with a pre-programmed series of emails over a certain interval of time such as once every day, every other day, or every week. In the early days of the internet, we had to manually respond to every email. Because of the nature of the internet and life, people are impatient and want what they want when they want it. As a result autoresponders were created. Now when a customer sends an email to a company, an autoresponder sends a reply back stating that they received the email and will email back shortly.
