Natures Freaky Fliers
We made a lot of crazy contraptions to fly. The freaky fliers of the wild beat us to this hair-brained idea and succeeded sooner then we did. Without wings, let alone feathers, these two freaky fliers have it easier than any other animal in the world.
One is obviously the bat, which is well known for flying without feathers at all. The thin, frail membranes connected to the forelimbs makes it possible for the bat to take flight. And with this trait, some species of bat are able to catch and eat prey while flying. This membrane on its limbs may tear easily but it is the fastest healing mammalian tissue in the world.
The freaky flier that is better than the bat is the infant spider. Right after hatching, the spider goes to the highest point nearby and shoots it thread in the air. The result of which takes the thread and the spider along with it. This method takes the spider to anywhere the wind takes it, like elsewhere in a continent, or high into the jet stream to another land mass. It is how spiders spread to the whole world with ease. Not all of them make it because of the oceans and our airplanes these days.
We always found ways to fly without feathers, even if they are hair-brained in the first place. Most of the first ideas did not pass but on of the latest is a suit designed to allow a person to glide. One man used this suit and a pair of compressed air canisters to glide farther than others.
