Using Spyware Detecting Software
If you own a computer and you browse online, even a little, you must have some virus protecting software installed. Why? It protects your files from those harmful spyware that can infect, slow down or even crash (causing your computer to no longer operate).
Spyware comes in many forms. Sometimes they are referred to as: viruses, Trojans, or worms. They can infect your window’s registry. They can even collect your personal information. Many times advertisers will use spyware to track where you visit on the web. These types of programs often attaches itself to your browser and tracks every site you visit. It also records this information. Sometimes we pick these tracking programs up on regular WebPages. Other times they will invade our browsing through pop up ads.
Some people will tell you that a Trojan horse is not a spyware program, but is actually a malware program. A Trojan horse also attaches itself to your computer, without your consent or knowledge. Once it is attached, it tracks your every keystroke and is able to copy your files (including those important financial files you may store). The Trojan will then send a copy of all your keystrokes and or files to a remote computer. The people who use Trojan horses are more dangerous than those who stick with the normal program that tracks your ad and page visits. The reason why that is these people are not concerned about what WebPages you visit. They are concerned with such things as your credit card numbers and files. Once they have this information, they can use them to their advantage and you could soon be a victim of identity theft.
You usually get these spyware programs by visiting certain webpage’s. Yet, you may also encounter them by downloading certain programs onto your computer such as free games, browser plug-in or tool bars.
Sometimes your computer will show signs that it is infected. Signs you should definitely watch out for are:
* A great number of pop up ads appearing on your computer, especially if you are not online.
* Your homepage has changed on its own.
* Your computer is running at a slow pace
The best way to protect your computer is to try to prevent it from ever being infected with any spyware programs in the first place. You can do this by adding a program for detecting and removal programs to your PC.
You can buy this software online or at any reputable electronics store. You can even find a few programs online for free.
Are free spyware removal programs a safe bet? It depends on which program you use. Some of the free programs may actually be a spyware program in hiding. If you wish to use a free program, you may want to first check it out to see if it is a safe program. One place in which you can check is Spyware Warrior. They have a listing of reputable and no reputable sites.
Remember once you do have a working spyware detecting and removal program on your pc, it must be used regularly and updated frequently to keep your computer running smoothly and spyware free.
