Step 1: Accept that everyone is NOT going to like you.

As children, we are taught to be nice and get along with everybody as part of our socialization. In our adulthood, we quickly find out that everyone will not like us no matter how nice we are, or how well we get along with other people. Understand that no matter what you do, you cannot please everyone all the time. Develop a mantra that helps you to stay focused on your own personal positivity, and say it as much as you need to. You have to like yourself enough for everyone!

Step 2: Pack Your Baggage!

Carrying the effects of negative or counter-productive experiences weighs on you. Some of us tend to harbor these thoughts, feelings and concepts in our daily life - often without realizing how damaging they are to our self-perception and how we treat others. Pack your baggage every day. Whatever it is that you are holding on to that is causing you to have a not-so-positive attitude, or a less than stellar view of yourself, put it away.

Try this exercise. Imagine a closet. Visualize yourself opening the door and putting in all of the things, people, thoughts, and memories, that affect your confidence. Shove them in if they don’t fit! Now, imagine locking the door. Know that when you put your baggage away it is gone. Tomorrow you create a new closet to put more away. You can never open the closets you have locked. They are gone. You control the activity of those things. They don’t control you.

Step 3: Make Peace With Your Shortcomings.

So you always wanted to play basketball, but you weren’t tall enough to make the team? Ok, Good. You already know that you are not tall enough and you will never BE tall enough. Let it go. You cannot change it. There is no magic potion. Accept that there is no growth spurt in your future. Make peace with it and move on. Condition yourself to not waste time on things you cannot change. Instead, redirect your energy to things that you can influence.

Step 4: Flip the Script!

Simply said, “Flip the Script” means “Do the opposite”. If you are normally a shy, quiet person, pick a day to be outgoing and outspoken. If you are an aggressive personality, try taking a mild approach for the day and see what happens. Talkative people - try listening for a day. Followers - become leaders for the day. You can be anything you want to be, and you can do whatever you set your mind to!

Learn from your results and use what you find to build a better you. Flipping the script doesn’t mean that you have to abandon who you are. It’s an exercise in evaluating alternatives. Just because you’ve always done something a particular way, doesn’t mean that you always have to do it that way - especially if it isn’t productive for you.

Step 5: Mind Your Mindset!

Henry Ford said, “Whether you think that you can, or that you can’t, you are usually right.” Pay attention to the feelings you project throughout your day. Negativity attracts more negativity. Positivity attracts more positivity. Indecisiveness attracts stagnation. If you are in need of money, don’t focus on not having money! Focus instead on ways to get the money you need. The Law of Attraction is always at work. Use it to your advantage!

These remedies are concepts that have been taught by psychologists, psychiatrists, motivational speakers, and successful business owners well beyond my years on this earth. I invite you to challenge yourself, and see how applying any of them to your daily life can make a difference in your business relationships and your personal achievements.

If you don’t choose your path, the one you follow will not be your own!
